Charlie Cole

Founder & Principal Consultant

Charlie Cole is a former WorkSafe Victoria Psychosocial Inspector with over 20 years' experience across policing, regulatory enforcement, and occupational health and safety.

As Māori and Pākehā, Charlie brings a cross-cultural lens to her work that most consultants in this space simply don't have. She understands what it means to navigate workplaces across cultures and that understanding directly informs how she approaches cultural safety, psychosocial risk, and the lived experience of workers from diverse backgrounds.

Charlie spent 11 years with WorkSafe Victoria as a specialist Psychosocial Inspector. She assessed employer compliance with OHS legislation, conducted workplace inspections, investigated complaints, issued compliance notices, and worked directly with organisations to identify psychosocial hazards and implement controls. She knows what a regulator looks for because she was the one looking.

Before WorkSafe, Charlie served 11 years with New Zealand Police and Victoria Police, where she built her investigative foundation, evidence gathering, investigative interviewing, and preparing complex matters for court. That policing background gives her investigations a level of procedural rigour and evidentiary discipline that sets them apart.

Charlie founded Clear Boundaries to help employers do this work properly, not just to avoid a fine, but to build workplaces where people are treated fairly, supported, and given the conditions to thrive in their careers. She brings a direct, calm, and evidence-based approach to every engagement.

Abbie Janssen

Founder & Principal Consultant

Abbie began her career as a paramedic, developing the ability to manage high-pressure situations with calm and sound judgement. A back injury sustained during her paramedic work prompted a career transition that ultimately led her to WorkSafe and occupational health and safety. This personal experience strengthened her commitment to preventing workplace harm before crises occur.

She completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems and transitioned into a role as an OHS Inspector. In this capacity, she conducted statutory inspections across a range of industries, investigated psychosocial risks, and identified underlying causes of workplace harm including stress, bullying, harassment, and excessive workload demands. She worked directly with organisations to implement practical, evidence-based controls and compliance measures. During her tenure, she also trained and mentored new inspectors, developing expertise in translating complex regulatory and psychosocial concepts into clear, actionable guidance.

Now, through Clear Boundaries, Abbie specialises in independent workplace investigations and psychosocial risk consulting. She conducts fair, thorough, and impartial investigations into workplace misconduct and compliance concerns, providing clear findings and practical, workable recommendations.

Drawing on her emergency services background and regulatory experience, Abbie works with organisations to navigate complex and sensitive matters with clarity, confidence, and a professional, measured approach.
